Adelante Technologies designs, develops and licenses open, embedded Digital Signal Processing (DSP) solutions that enable system-on chip (SoC) implementations for current- and next-generation Wireless, Consumer Infotainment and Networking applications. Combining its family of re-configurable and re-programmable DSP cores, application-specific DSP accelerators, and DSP subsystems, Adelante’s DSP solutions provide OEMs, Semiconductor manufacturers and foundries with the flexibility, power-efficiency and performance to design and manufacture SoC solutions for the high-volume, and feature-rich devices of the Multi-Media age.
Adelante was founded in September 2001 by Philips Semiconductors, a division of Royal Philips Electronics, the world leading consumer electronics giant, which spun out its consumer applications targeted R.E.A.L. DSP core technology and merged it with Frontier Design, the leader in C-based DSP coprocessor synthesis tools. In 2002 Adelante was listed in TIME Magazine’s list of “Europe’s 50 Hottest Tech Firms”. In July, 2003, Adelante sold its A|RT DSP coprocessor technology and associated activity in Leuven, Belgium, to ARM. Adelante Technologies continues to develop and sell its licensable embedded DSP solution serving cost- and power-efficient applications demanding a high functional performance.
As the DSP market continues to evolve from a semiconductor-driven, captive environment to the systems-driven, open environment in the Multi-Media Age, Adelante’s open, embedded DSP solutions provide system developers with unparalleled functional performance, with a very high power- and cost- efficiency. Unlike IC manufacturers applying a proprietary DSP technology, Adelante’s completely open, embedded DSP solutions enable system integrators to make value-added design and manufacturing decisions that will drive and differentiate next-generation consumer products.
Adelante’s DSP solutions are based on a family of licensable, open DSP cores, DSP sub-systems, application-specific DSP accelerators, and DSP software development tools. More than 100 million chips using Adelante DSP technology have been shipped to date.
At the heart of Adelante’s open, embedded DSP solution is a fully programmable, configurable Galaxic™ DSP core coupled with one or more application-specific DSP accelerator. The patented Application-Specific Instructions (ASIs) and Application-Specific Execution Units (AXUs) techniques enable SoC designers to select and create their own optimized DSP instructions and data path elements, in order to optimize trade-offs between, cost, power, and performance, without having to change the software development tool set.
Adelante’s development tools provide SoC designers with additional design freedom and ease-of-use. The Atmosphere™ C-driven development tool suite provides a an integrated development environment (IDE) in which DSP hardware accelerators and DSP peripherals can be dynamically plugged into a multi-core simulation and debug environment.
